Shock and Strut
Suspension Service

Shocks and struts are critically important suspension components, they not only keep your car riding smoothly but keeps your wheels in proper contact with the road . Properly maintained suspension is also vital to safe steering and braking, and can help extend the life of your tires.

At Taggart & Sons Automotive we can perform the following:

  • Free visual inspection of your struts and shocks.
  • Perform a vehicle road test and evaluate for excessive bounce, roll and sway, brake dive or acceleration squat that could be an indication of shock or strut control problems.
  • If needed, replace shocks or struts with lifetime parts on most cars.
  • We offer original equipment equivalent parts or the opportunity to improve vehicle control with performance-tuned shocks and struts.

Below is a diagram of how shock and struts work and how much demand there is on them.

Proper Shock and Strut is critical to your cars performance

Check Your Suspension
How to tell if your shocks & struts are worn out:
  • Tire Wear – Your tires seem to have excessive or uneven tread wear.
  • Leaking – Your shocks or struts are leaking fluid.
  • Damage – Your shock or strut casings are dented or damaged.
  • Mounts – The shock or strut mounts are broken or worn.
  • Mileage – Shocks and struts should be checked every 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
  • Drifting – Your vehicle seems to float, sway or drift during turns.
  • Rough Ride – Your vehicle bounces excessively when you hit a bump.
  • Dip – Your vehicle tends to “nose dive” when you apply the brakes.
  • Bounce Test – Shocks and struts can be tested by pushing down quickly and firmly on the front and rear of the vehicle and watching for excessive bounce.

Take this easy test. Push down quickly and firmly on the front and rear of your vehicle. If there's excessive bouncing, you probably need to replace your shocks and struts. Bring your vehicle to Taggart & Sons Automotive for service.
